CryptoFile works with Windows 95, 98, 98se, Me, 2000, and XP and NT.
CryptoFile works with Windows Explorer, so you won’t see an icon on
the desktop. You can be sure it’s
installed by doing the following:
Right Click on the Start Menu
Click Explore
Right Click a file or folder
You should see Enable Locking or Disable Locking on the right click menu. You may see other options, but you will always see one of these. This means CryptoFile is installed and ready to protect your data!
The access password is used to enable Locking and Unlocking. You must enter the access password before you can Lock or UnLock any files. The first time you run CryptoFile or when you come back to the machine after disabling CryptoFile you will need to enter your password.
The file password is used to Lock the file or folder. The data is encrypted with the password you enter. This assures that no one else can unlock the data. Even if someone knows the method used to encrypt the data, they still cannot view your data unless they know the password you used to lock it. This insures your data is completely protected.
The access password should never be the same as the file password for security purposes.
1. Remember that CryptoFile works with Explorer. So if you right click on a file or folder from the desktop, you will not see the Lock or UnLock options. Make sure you’re in Explorer. You can tell my the tree listing of your computer on the left side of the window.
2. You must enable Locking before you can use it. If you right click on a file or folder in Explorer and see the option “Enable Locking” select this, enter your password and then click OK.When you right click again, you will see the Lock option.
You must purchase the software to continue Locking new files. Even if the trial period has expired, the UnLock option will still work. This will allow you to UnLock any data, but you will not be permitted to Lock any more files.
There is no way to recover a lost password. We have no way to help you because we do not know your password and we do not have any secret way to unlock a file! So please write it down in a safe place or use a password you will remember.
See the previous item!
If you want to change the lock password on a file or folder, you will have to UnLock the file or folder and then Lock it with the new password.
The license for CryptoFile only works on one machine. You will have to purchase a license for
each machine. But the license will
work for all your disk storage devices connected to that machine.
Take a break, then come back and leisurely read the hardware and software installation sections above. We know it’s frustrating when things don’t work the first time. But the truth is that most problems can be solved by slowly reading the pages contained on this web site and checking (and re-checking) the installation. The most common problems we encounter are:
Not being in Windows Explorer (the software only runs through Windows Explorer)
Not having enough free space on the drive to Lock files
Trial mode expired and you cannot Lock any files

If you purchased CryptoFile on a different machine, you must email support@mobilexperts.com with the hardware ID of the machine you wish to license. To find the hardware ID, select Lock from the explorer menu. When the trial dialog comes up select ENTER KEY. In that window you will find the hardware ID. Email that along with a copy of your receipt and we'll help you right away. (Please copy and paste the hardware ID to be sure it is correct.)
A license is good for one computer. You can install it on any number of computers but it will revert to trial mode until a license is purchased. You should email support@mobilexperts.com with a copy of your receipt and the new Hardware ID to get a new UnLock code.
You must have 110% of the size of the file free on the same drive as the file. If you have a 1 MB file you want to Lock, you must have 1.1 MB of free space on that drive. If you don’t have enough space, you can move the file to another drive.
If for any reason the new copy fails to unlock, send an email to support@mobilexperts.com and we will be happy to assist you.
CryptoFile will allow you to protect any file or folder on your system. It is not recommended that you lock any files in your system folder or your computer may stop working.
CryptoFile Pro adds a master password. With a master password an administrator can access or unlock files on any system. It offers greater disaster recovery (because there are two passwords), as well as a password utility which lets you change, export and import master passwords. This is highly recommended for corporate use so that an employee cannot lock files and prevent the administrator from accessing them.
Master passwords are used in the Pro version of CryptoFile to override either the access password or the file password. With the master password installed you can unlock any file on the system – even if you don’t remember the password it was locked with.
